Tounge

smbdy previously wrote that the root of the tongue must be relaxed - but I've heard that to assist the lips in blowing the higher notes it is helpful to move the tongue body up to the roof of the mouth so as to constrict the opening in the mouth - is that true?

Most every experienced player uses some tounge movement when ascending to higher pitches.

Higher pitches do require an increase in lip tension which ads some resistance to the air flow. Some people assist with the air pressure increase by raising the tounge slightly, but this can be done in a easy and relaxed way without adding tension in the throat and neck. It also may require maintaining or even increasing the abdominal effort to meet the increased pressure.

PLEASE NOTE: What I personally strive for is for the tongue movements to be very slight. The better trained the embouchure is to vibrate at higher pitches the less the pressure increases, which in turn requires less tounge movement. A very slight tounge movement can be executed without adding tension.
